The Captains' Cup Results

The Captains' Cup carries more weight than most events on the calendar. Sixteen pairs turned up on Sunday morning, and when the cards were in, it was a family affair at the top.

Tasara Masarira (9) & Belinda Masarira (31)
Net 66 · 6 under par

The Masariras' front nine of 30 set the tone early. They came home in 36 for a six-under total of 66. Tasara kept the pair grounded off the tee, while Belinda's shots-received did the rest, converting bogeys into pars on the card. Clean, consistent, no drama. The Captains' Cup has new names on it.

Sikhumbuzo Ngono (18) & Nothando Moyo (18)
Net 67 · 5 under par

Four shots back at the turn, Ngono and Moyo closed in 33, one of the best back nines of the day. At five under they were the only pair to apply any real pressure on the leaders. A different day, this card wins it.

🥉 Third place
Douglas Choto (17) & Unathi Klassie (19)
Net 70 · 2 under par

Choto and Klassie didn't do anything spectacular, but they didn't need to. Big numbers stayed off the card and a back nine of 33 got them home at two under. A deserved podium.

The podium chase

Brighton Jakata (14) & Promise Chabata (19) finished fourth at one under with a closing 33. Brighton was on the podium at the Rodecon Rampage a few weeks ago too. He and Chabata will know they left something out there.

Gerald Manyatelo (14) & Shepherd Zimunya (18) went around in even par. They turned in 32 but came home in 40, which tells the back nine story. Par at the Captains' Cup is par.

The chasing pack

Cynthia Moraka (19) & Sir Mario Mawaro (22) and Arnold Muganhu (17) & Gwen Muganhu (27) both finished one over to share sixth and seventh. The Muganhus, another family pair in this Captains' Cup, built their 73 on a solid front nine. Moraka and Mawaro were in it until something gave late in the round.

Ishmael Kapinda (16) & Constance Mupondi (22) and Kuda Mukungunugwa (18) & Lawrence Mubika (15) tied eighth, both on net 74. Kapinda won the Rodecon Rampage a few weeks back; the betterball format wasn't as kind.

The most interesting card of the day was Raphael Nyangani (7) & Gillian Chikerema (26) in tenth. They went out in 40, which looked bad. They came home in 30, the joint best back nine in the field. Three over on the day, and a round that went in two completely different directions.

Completing the field

Walter Bvekerwa (11) & Elsie Rateiwa (22) and Tendai Matunhire (6) & Innocent Gumbochuma (21) both finished three over in eleventh and twelfth. Bright Mubaiwa (12) & Lewis Mujati (23) four over in thirteenth. Crispen Muzvuwe (10) & Fulu Murovhi (19) six over in fourteenth, Sherpard Mlambo (18) & Graham Kusano (12) seven over in fifteenth, and Bruce Dzenga (14) & Socrates Zifamba (30) brought up the rear at sixteen over.
