Jackal Creek July Jaunt Results

Twenty players took on Jackal Creek for the July Jaunt, and Raphael Nyangani left with the cleanest card in the field. His net 70, two under par, was built on a steady front nine and a sharp 33 coming home.

Raphael did not need fireworks. He opened with 37, avoided the big miss, then picked up the round properly after the turn. The back nine was the best closing stretch among the players near the top, and it gave him four shots of breathing room by the end.

Mario's back-nine charge

Sir Mario Mawaro (22) finished second on net 74. His card was the oddest and probably the most entertaining of the day: 44 out, 30 in. That is a fourteen-shot swing between nines. The win had slipped too far away by then, but a back nine like that still deserves a line of its own.

Walter Bvekerwa (10) took third on net 75. He was the steadier of the two chasers, with 38 out and 37 in, and never looked completely out of the conversation. Brighton Jakata (11) followed on net 77 after cleaning up well on the back nine, while Ishmael Kapinda (15) rounded out the top five with a net 78.

Middle of the pack

Kuda Mukungunugwa (18) came in sixth on net 80, with Elsie Rateiwa (22) and Socrates Zifamba (33) both a shot behind on 81. Busani Siwela (10) and Gillian Chikerema (26) shared the next number on net 82. Gillian's card had plenty going on, including a one at the third and a two at the tenth, but the back-nine sevens kept the round from climbing higher.

Cynthia Moraka (19) and Tawanda Ndabambi (14) both posted net 85. Lawrence Mubika (15) and Nyasha Gwinji (27) were together on 86, then Promise Chabata (17) and Terence Murasiki (15) closed the next group on 88.

How the course played

The sixth was the roughest hole on the card by scoring average, just ahead of the first and sixteenth. The par-threes gave a few players a chance to breathe, especially the third and fifteenth, but Jackal Creek still made everyone work for a clean finish.

Carlyn Smith (25) signed for net 84, although the ScoreCapture listing places her 19th in the published order. Bruce Dzenga (13) closed the field on net 95. Congratulations to Raphael on a tidy win, and credit to Mario for turning a difficult front nine into the best closing nine of the day.
